School Volunteer Background Checks

June 30, 2011

On June 28, the Tupelo Public School District Board of Trustees heard the recommendation made by Deputy Superintendent Diana Ezell to revise the procedures for school volunteer background checks.

Volunteers will now submit to one initial criminal background check. This new regulation will be retroactive to include individuals who have already completed the initial background check for the 2010-2011 school year.

However, the district does reserve the right to require any person to submit to additional criminal background checks or to rerun background checks at any time based on reasonable suspicion of an individual?s status.

TPSD Personnel Announcements

June 28, 2011

Today the Tupelo Public School District Board of Trustees approved the recommendation of Interim Superintendent David Meadows for the following positions:
Tupelo High School Principal
Secondary Associate Principal
Elementary Principal
Middle School Assistant Principal
Elementary Assistant Principal
Tupelo High School Band Director
All assignments will be effective July 1, 2011.

"Personnel recommendations for administrators and other positions of leadership in our district are one of my most difficult tasks as Interim Superintendent," David Meadows said. "As our frontline educational leaders, our principals and assistant principals are a critical component to the success of our students; thus, these recommendations are made with much thoughtful consideration and deliberation."

"Recently, the district announced six new administrative assignments-one at the district level and the others at the school level. Our district takes great pride in developing leaders, and I was extremely proud that we could fill those positions from within our existing team members. However, it does create a domino effect that leaves their previously held positions vacant. I am pleased to announce that we were able to replace majority of these most recent vacancies with existing team members as well. I have every confidence that each will be successful in their respective positions."
